Deepak’s Journey from Malnutrition to Health

Deepak, a young boy from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, suffered from severe malnutrition, frequently falling ill and growing weaker. His condition worsened until he was hospitalized due to acute diarrhea. Through the supplementary nutrition feeding program launched by Jeevan Jyoti Sewa Sanstha in Bharatpur Melghat, Deepak and other malnourished children received high-nutrient food under the care of Anganwadi and ASHA workers. Thanks to timely intervention, Deepak is now healthy and thriving. To ensure a stable income for his family, we also provided them with two goats and a kitchen garden, giving them access to fresh vegetables and financial stability.

Child Sponsorship – A Ray of Hope

Bharat, a six-year-old from Delhi, is one of the many children benefitting from our Child Sponsorship Program. For children caught in the cycle of poverty and exploitation, education and development often remain out of reach. Through our sponsorship program, supporters can change a child’s life by contributing ₹300 per month, providing access to education, healthcare, and clean drinking water. This initiative has already transformed the lives of thousands of children across 145 Area Development Programs (ADPs) and 58 special projects in India.

Payal’s First Step to School” – A Story of Hope from Rural Basti, U.P.

In the dusty lanes of a small village in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh, lived Payal, a bright-eyed 9-year-old girl with a curious mind but no access to education. Her family, bound by poverty and tradition, believed school was not meant for girls. Payal spent her days fetching water, caring for siblings, and watching boys walk past her home in uniform.

But Payal never gave up on her dream of going to school.

When Jeevan Jyoti Sewa Sanstha reached her village through its Education Program for Rural Children, everything changed. Our volunteers spoke to her family, sensitized the community, and helped enroll her in a nearby government school. We provided her with books, a uniform, and ongoing academic support.

“The first time I wore my school dress, I couldn’t stop smiling,” says Payal. “Now, I want to become a teacher and help other girls like me.”

Today, Payal attends school regularly, ranks among the top students in her class, and inspires other girls in her village to pursue their right to education.

Her story is a shining example of how a little support can light a life.

Maa Again – Shanti Bai, 74

Abandoned and alone, Shanti Bai found refuge at our Old Age & Day Care Center. With medical care, good food, warmth, and dignity, she calls this her home now.

“I was forgotten by my own, but here, I feel like I’m everyone’s mother.”

She now helps other senior women adjust, find purpose, and feel valued again.

Hope Beyond Hardship – The Story of Raju Khan

Raju Khan, a 48-year-old resident of West Delhi, faced a devastating turn in life when he suffered a paralysis attack, in 2019 leaving him bedridden and unable to work. As the sole earner for his family, his illness brought not just physical pain but a crushing financial crisis.

With no income, no support, and no access to government aid, Raju and his family ran out of food. Days passed in hunger, helplessness, and silence — until a neighbor told them about Jeevan Jyoti Sewa Sanstha.

Raju’s family reached out, and within 48 hours, Jeevan Jyoti’s relief team delivered a monthly ration kit to their doorstep — packed with essentials like wheat, rice, pulses, oil, and hygiene supplies. We also connected his family with a local SHG for long-term assistance.

“When no one else was listening, Jeevan Jyoti stood by us,” says his wife with tears in her eyes. “They treated us with dignity.”

Today, Raju is under medical care and his children are not going to bed hungry. His story is not just one of survival, but of how compassion can reach even where hope fades.

Eyes That Smile Again – Rekha Devi, 62

Rekha Devi had almost lost hope. She had been living with cataract for over 4 years, her vision fading slowly, making her dependent on neighbors for daily tasks. Her son had migrated for work, and medical treatment felt like a distant dream.

Through our Free Cataract Operation Program, Rekha underwent successful surgery.

“When the bandages were removed, I saw the world again. I saw my grandson’s face clearly for the first time in years. That moment... I will never forget.”

Today, Rekha moves independently, participates in temple prayers, and teaches local children to read.

I felt like I mattered. — Salim, 62

On a bitterly cold December night, Salim, a 62-year-old man who lives on the pavement near Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow, was huddled under a torn plastic sheet. With no family and no income, winter was his most dreaded season.

That night, our Jeevan Jyoti Sewa Sanstha team was on a blanket distribution drive. As we approached Salim, he looked up with tired eyes, not expecting kindness — just trying to survive.

When we handed him a new woolen blanket, a warm cap, and offered him hot tea and snacks, Salim broke down.

“For the first time in days, I will sleep warm,” he whispered.
“I felt like I mattered.”

This one moment reminds us why we do what we do.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, that night we were able to distribute over 300 blankets and warm clothes across Lucknow’s coldest streets — reaching those who are too often forgotten.
